Woman arrested for harvesting “Cute” pot plant
Florida - Authorities in Florida said a woman arrested for allegedly growing a marijuana plant told deputies she only kept the plant because it was “cute.” Moore told the deputy she does not smoke marijuana and she received the plant as a “baby plant” from a neighbor a few months ago. Full Article
FBI looking to identify “Ho Hum Bandit”
California - The FBI is asking for the public’s help to identify a serial bank robber dubbed the “Ho Hum Bandit,” who in three cases robbed the same bank twice. The man is believed responsible for a dozen bank robberies in San Diego and Orange counties. Authorities said earlier that he was given the “Ho-Hum” moniker because of his unassuming manner. Murder conviction built on cop’s lies
Colorado - The accuser will stand accused as a Colorado detective answers charges he lied in the case that wrongfully sent Tim Masters to prison. Masters, who served nine years of a life sentence after his 1998 arrest in Peggy Hettrick’s murder, said he hopes Fort Collins, Colorado, and Larimer County will finally acknowledge he was railroaded. Miami Approves 500-Foot Tall Billboards
Florida - Miami is about to get a taste of Times Square, now that the city’s commissioners have given their okay to a plan that would erect a pair of towering electronic signs. Even though the project faced vehement opposition from some residents, the commissioners still voted 4-1 to approve the billboards, which would reach nearly 500 feet into the Miami sky. The reason? Oklahoma - A would-be thief is behind bars. Police didn’t catch him and neither did mall security. They both had help from a 16-year-old girl. She was at the mall talking to her mother on her cell phone when suddenly a man started running her way. By slamming him to the ground she gave mall secsecurityurity the chance to catch up. Canada - The Oregon government is suing a Calgary mother for the cost of keeping her son in foster care for two years while she fought for his return to Canada. The boy, now 12, was visiting his stepfather in Oregon in 2008 when police there picked him up for not wearing his bike helmet. U.S. officials didn’t recognize the boy’s stepfather as a legal guardian, so he was sent to a foster home, setting off a long legal battle. NEW YORK, A 59-year friendship that began as a school assignment to write a letter to a soldier stationed in Korea finally has culminated in the pair meeting in New York. Barbara Rohl, 69, of New York said she first sent a letter to Orville Schumacher, 80, of Nebraska then a soldier stationed in Korea, as a school assignment when she was 11 years old in 1951 and the two continued exchanging letters for 59 years. Dachshund floors pedal, crashes car
WOODBURY, Minnesota - Police in Minnesota said a car crashed into a liquor store when the 71-year-old motorist’s dachshund puppy wedged itself between his feet and the gas pedal. Woodbury Police Sgt. Curt Zacharias said Richard Coerber, 72, was pulling into a parking space about noon at Woodbury Liquors when the small dog jumped on the accelerator. Full Article
